Thanksgiving Decorating
Does anyone here decorate for thanksgiving?
I don't really do much, other than maybe get a few pumpkins out. But I might do a tiny bit more this year since my former land lord left some thanksgiving decorations, including some little minature turkeys, and a few other things.
Any thoughts on this?

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
lol yeah I'm getting a bit hungry now thinking about Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.
I'm not sure what to really decorate with though, some people get fall harvest related decorations consisting of Indian corn, scare crows, cornucopias, turkeys and pumpkins, maybe some hay, and of course the Indians and pilgrims. Maybe those fake leaves...or real ones if you aren't concerned with them crumbling up all over the inside of your house

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
Most of my fall/Halloween decorations are interchangeable, i just switch out JOLs for pumpkins.

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
What Andy said. If you have waited until after Halloween to purchase THanksgiving decor, good luck with finding it.
I do have a wooden turkey door hanging I got at Hobby Lobby a few years back, but beyond that, I just eliminate the spookier stuff from my autumnal decor both inside and out. If I can get a pumpkin to last until Thanksgiving dinner, I often carve one in a turkey pattern I got from Pumpkin Masters to use as a centerpiece. I do it while the turkey is baking.
Oh, and I have a ceramic pilgrim couple I put on the table, too. Also some turkey-shaped salt and pepper shakers I inherited from my mother.

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
I'm not too concerned with it, I have a few odds and ends I can use that were left from the house's previous owner, including those turkey miniatures (turns out they were salt and pepper shakers lol) and such.
I think a few decorations here and there will suffice, I usually don't go too crazy with it like I do with Christmas and Halloween.

I decorate with pumpkins and a few turkey trays and a turkey that plays the duck dance theme, I put out my fall candles and keep some of my scarecrow decorations out too.

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
I had two scarecrows in my front yard before Halloween. One had a JOL head (stuffed, but it looked like one), but the other one was more conventional. I would have left the other one up for Thanksgiving, but it kept spinning around in the wind, facing my house rather than the street, and when I tried to reposition it, it proved difficult. So I said to it, "You are going into storage until next year."

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
I found some of those little things you hang out in the windows and put them up that are Thanksgiving related, and a little pilgrim hat thing to hang outside. I made a homemade paper turkey out of a foam plate, paint, construction paper, glue and googly eyes.
We're actually going to have something of a Thanksgiving party this year with the neighbors. ^^ I'm also thinking of getting out the turkey blow up.
It's not much, but I wanted to show some homage to thanksgiving since I hardly ever decorate for it, and I'm waiting to decorate the Christmas stuff.
I left a few pumpkins out, mostly with really friendly faces. I also took out a fake pumpkin that I normally have my AVON cat stuff on, and just removed the cat stuff to have a plain pumpkin for display. I found a scare crow that didn't have a pumpkin face with it and a plain pumpkin to display with that.
I'm leaving my pumpkin spice Halloween candles out and going to make a center piece for the table with little turkey decorations and another fake pumpkin that looks ceramic.
I think that should suffice.
Sounds like quite a temperamental scare crow murf!
I always thought those dancing turkeys were funny witchy. XD

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
I can't seem to find the Turkey blow up. I am thinking the former land lord might have taken that one. I did find a scare crow blow up though. Maybe I'll put that out instead. Scare crows seem to be popular for Thanksgiving for some reason. My concern is that it has a Jack o Lantern with it, but oh well. People already know I'm a Halloween nut around here so that shouldn't matter too much. lol!

Re: Thanksgiving Decorating
I expect your neighbors will enjoy seeing that you put out a little effort to decorate. Scarecrows work for Thanksgiving as well as Halloween, since Thanksgiving is essentially a harvest festival. At least, that's how I see it.

Sheesh! Why don't you just wiggle your nose, or wave you wand, or whatever you witches do and have it done with?
Did you remember to make one of these? Except I think I would have left the head off and had ketchup running down the neck.

Too much work...Martha.
I'm having bachelor chow.
I'm recording the parade while I go outside and throw some Christmas lights around.
