Mill Creek Haunted Hollow 2009 brainstorming

Post by TK421 » Fri Mar 13, 2009 12:14 pm

This is my basic idea for 2009. As I said, I want to add a boardwalk. This is the path I would like people to take. People would enter next to the pumpkin patch, walk by the graveyard and crypt, then go up to the front door. After their treat, they would proceed to the tower and apothecary, then the mausoleum, witches, and finally come out be the CiderShack.

What I really need to figure out is what goes in the middle of the driveway. I don't want to put more tombstones in the middle of the driveway -- I want something new and interesting. Also, something that is tall enough to block the view from one side of the boardwalk to the other.

Please, give me ideas!

This is my idea for the boardwalk. I'll be using some 2x4s for the support, and then I'll cut all of my old decking down to 3ft lengths. Along the 2x4s, I'll attach orange ropelights to illuminate the path.

he makes his walls with pallets, here's another place you've prob already seen
http://www.halloweenmonsterlist.info/
gotta be something cool on that monster page of stuff!
-Maybe a mine shaft, using a fogmachine with a spiral effect on a projector, have an extra I bought at a yardsale for $5 if ya want it.

One thing to consider if you do go lightorama, you'll have extension cords everywhere, having people walk on a boardwalk is the best way to keep em outa harms way.
You don't want a big lawsuit cause someone tripped.
I kept everyone out of everything, I had about 45 cords spewing outa my garage, and when we had my friend fire up a chainsaw on the bigger kids, I learned I had to stand between them and the graveyard as the tended to want to flee into the graveyard. Was a riot!

I definitely plan on putting the extension cords under the boardwalk. It's a great way to hide the cords.

I also really want to incorporate the light-o-rama into the pumpkin patch. I think I can get away with 16 channels, I'll just have to double up on a few pumpkins.

A mine shaft is an interesting idea, I'll have to think about that. I'm really mixed on what to do with the driveway "mystery spot". I want something to mask the pavement, but I don't want to do something too tall, because it might block the apothecary and tower too much from the street.

Like I said, I'm hoping to hear from everyone and get some really good ideas while there's still plenty of time to build stuff.

I was sometimes running 3-5 pumpkins from one channel, just spread em out with smaller cheap extension cords, the indoor cords work fine, and at under $2 for a 15 fter, when you only leave em out in the weather for short periods. I had no problems with anything shorting out even with a foot of snow on top.
The flicker flame bulbs work great in pumpkins too.
*perhaps a descending mineshaft, something just to look into, because the moment you have people enter into a covered structure, you may have code/fire violations. Make it only about 4ft tall so i doesn't block too much.

I have still no idea what I'll do yet, no orders from the navy yet, so house hunting can only go as far as that looks great, hope it's still there if we ever get orders.... Starting to stress us out as we're penciled in to move in July, ugh!

Yes defiantly, how about a ride up in the hills when the snow clears, have ya ridden up Mt Baker, that's a good one, my wife and I did the Hwy 20 loop to Winthrop, then camped in Leavenworth, we had a great time, of course that was back in Aug.
If ya stop by the house I'll probably have some wood scraps for ya, who knows what else I'll find, we have a weight limit, so not everything can go.

If you're still takin ideas for what to put in the center there, more crypts and even a fountain if you'd like. Water always steals peoples attention and makes them unaware of what's going to happen next. Just keep it running and it won't freeze. And make sure to space your planks a little bit apart, when we went to put light under our planks, they were right up against eachother so no light went through. Dang, wish I had a whole front yard to decorate of my own! mom and dad won't be living there for forever!
Trick the devil into an apple tree and for all eternity you'll carry a turnip on fire .... I'll stick with the pumpkin....

HA! Okay, no way am I going to wrap myself in lights and perform some routine over and over again on Halloween night.

The second video is pretty cool. I've got the skeletons, and I might have the time and knowledge to build the 3-servo skull kits. It's a neat idea. Might be fun to have a quartet in front of the crypt. I'd need to find some really good songs to go with the singing group.

Thanks for the clips!

I love the projector animated faces on the pumpkins. That's something I could do on the computer -- I just need the projector.

Very cool.

I did some searching online and found a 150ft roll of orange ropelight for $55.

http://www.1000bulbs.com/Commercial-Grade-Rope-Light/

150ft of orange ropelight + power connecting cord + shipping = $84.70

Not a bad deal for 150 feet of orange rope light on my doorstep!!

I like the orange colored LEDs a lot!
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.
