Re: Catching up
I am sorry to hear about Val Kilmer. I saw him in several movies back in the day, and most recently in Top Gun Maverick, which I thought was a much better movie than the original Top Gun. I learned at choir practice tonight that our minister's wife just lost her mother unexpectedly today, so she's h...

Re: Catching up
Oh, man, good for her, I guess. But what a thing to do to people who care about you!
I'm glad it wasn't true.

Re: What are you watching?
Johnny Depp has always struck me as essentially a character actor in a leading man's body. He's never won an Oscar (though he should have for the first Pirates). I've always hoped he might win for a supporting role someday.

Re: What are you watching?
Well, I bought Nosferatu on DVD in Feb and finally watched it last night. My middle son, who saw part of it before leaving for his night shift, remarked it was a "morbid fever dream," which is a pretty good description. The director, Robert Eggers? I think, has also done The Witch, The Lig...

Re: Catching up
The whole cast loved Portland, and two of them stayed there, at least for a while, after the show wrapped. I believe the Monroe and Sean Reynard actors chose to stay for a while. The guy who played Hank had another, short-lived tv show, and the girl who played Adalind had a significant story arc on ...

Re: Catching up
Oh, yes. That was a Halloween episode, and I Ioved it. The girl who plays Juliette is the daughter of some American diplomat to South America (Argentina? Maybe). She is fluent in Spanish in RL, so they used that skill in that episode. Don't know if I've mentioned it before, but the summer after Grim...

Re: Catching up
Yes, the tornadoes were bad in some places, and there was loss of property in our county, but not near us. We're having a kind of St Patrick's Day meal tonight, Irish sausage (whatever that is) and small boiled red potatoes that I dress with a butter herb sauce. Just a bagged salad with it, nothing ...

Re: Catching up
My CA cousins say they prefer earthquakes to tornadoes. IDK. To me, nothing would be quite so terrifying as not being able to count on the earth beneath my feet. Of course, we aren't immune to that, either. The New Madrid Fault over near Memphis produced the granddaddy of all earthquakes c 1810 or 1...

Lol. I was never required to climb a rope in gym class (thank the Lord), but my mother was. She spoke of it as the worst part of her gym class experience.

Re: Catching up
I believe there was school, yes, so I turned in my homework. I guess the tornado either didn't touch down, or didn't do so in the city. When I was growing up in Mississippi, spring was just tornado season. One of the things I enjoyed about middle TN when I first moved up here was that we didn't have...

Re: Catching up
I can't remember every time I've been near tornadoes, but I do recall one evening when I was 15, probably Feb of 1970. That was a day when there was a massive tornado outbreak up in the Delta, maybe 27 or 30 of them in one day. Jackson isn't in the Delta, but as the storm system pushed through the s...

Re: Catching up
Oh, I forgot about Pi Day, though I considered it last night. We bought 4 individual fudge pies tonight at the grocery store. I guess that counts. So far (knock wood) I have never had a tornado hit a structure I've been in, but a number of times over the years I've been closer than I liked. When the...

Re: Catching up
Is that from your balcony? Man, what a view! We're in for a stormy weekend. Tornado threats, starting tonight, all the way through Sat night/early Sun morning. Today our town is at Level 2 risk, not so bad. But tomorrow we escalate to Level 3 (out of 5). I start to get nervous at Level 3. I've lived...

Re: Catching up
Lol, Andy, you always make me laugh. HH, your analysis of the problems with government funding of the sciences is dead on. To justify this stuff, they always cite the most outlandish projects, like cow farts or transgender mice or something. But too often, they end up throwing the baby out with the ...
